Today there are five.

On Friday I got 6 fertile eggs from Stephanie of Hen & Chicks Antiques in Arlington. She has a great little shop! Definitely have to go back when I’ve got time. She has an amazing assortment of birds on her property. She’s got cochins, polish, seramas, silkies, ameraucanas and more. It was great! I bought 2 Serama eggs, 2 Cochin (standard), 1 Ameraucana bantam and 1 Ameraucana standard. Agnes has been proudly sitting on them in a nest box made of a Sessions beer box since then.
Unlike last time, I’ve left her in the coop with the other girls - so much easier for me and I think less stressful for her. Today when I got home from work she’d kicked one of the Serama eggs out of the nest. It was cold so I didn’t think it was worth giving back to her. So I did what any normal (?) person would do. I cracked it open to see… Cool, yet gross. It was developing so I’m not sure why she didn’t want it. Could be that she has too many eggs and needed to downsize? Who knows. Anyway, now she has 5; 2 banty eggs and 3 standard. Hope we get a hen or two out of this! Hatching should commence either 6/29 or 6/30 so stay posted.
This morning I rode my bike in to work (something I’m trying to do at least 2 days a week). As I came through the woods on the shortcut through Boeing I rode within 5 feet of a young doe mule deer. It was pretty amazing - I didn’t see her until the last minte, and I don’t think she heard me until then, so we were mutually suprised. She jumped over the barrier on the side of the road and then just watched me go by. Nice way to start the day if I do say so myself.
