Here are the promised photos of the new chicks, taken on July 1st. 1 has a name, 2 are still nameless because I can’t come up with any bird names that seem to work and that I like. Anyone have any suggestions? Right now I’m calling them both “chickie” but that won’t work so well long term ![]()
This is DeeDee, her feet are actually straight, she was just trying to turn and run when I took the pic. She looks to be a bantam Serama / Silkie cross.

This is the yellow chick, tentatively named Goldie (gold finch) but I’m not hugely enthused about it. Goldie hatched from the bantam Ameraucana (or Easter Egger) egg, but I’m not sure what she’s crossed with. Other suggestions are welcome! But bear in mind the theme of bird types…

This is the standard sized chick - she came from the standard sized Ameraucana (Easter Egger) egg, she seems to be crossed with a Cochin as she’s quite fluffy and has feathered feet. She really has no name at all right now.

I’ll take name suggestions through, oh, July 11. Then I’ll have to pick one. Please leave name ideas in comments.

Awww! What fun, to name them… We staunchly avoid naming because we have a slightly different set-up that might lead to, um, dinner plans. But chicks sure are cute!
What adorable chicks! What fun to hatch them. I think the reddish one is a guy and should be called Rufus…but maybe he/she is a little girl. I can’t think of a good alternative name if it is a girl–Ruffisina sounds a bit too hoity-toity. Love your site.
Gina, as a kid we never got to name them because most of them were dinner and there were too many RIR laying hens to keep track. So naming them now if fun!
Kris, I sure hope the reddish one is a hen as its a very pretty, calm and friendly chick. But I like Rufus… Maybe I could give her a boy’s name…
Naming is such a challenge. For the beautiful golden one, Clarice, and the reddish one, Libbe.
Hope that helps some.
Cheers!
