One Local Summer - Week 7
Aug 9th, 2007 by Laura
It was really nice to be back in the groove this week. I had time to go to the farmer’s market, to think about meals, to generally get it together. I normally would have avoided doing eggs for an OLS meal as they feel a bit like cheating, but it’s so nice to be back in the eggs that I thought we should enjoy them.
OLS meal 7.1 happened on Wednesday night. I fully intended to make an omelet, but as usually it didn’t work out right and so we ended up with scramble instead. We added in local cheese, sauteed mushrooms and chives and had a garden salad on the side. Our only non-local cheats were vinaigrette ingredients, salt and pepper. Here’s a quick photo - it tasted MUCH better than it looks.
- Eggs (backyard, 0 miles)
- Beecher’s Flagship cheese (Seattle, 25 miles)
- Chives (front porch, 0 miles)
- Mushrooms (not so local, Oregon, 200 miles)
- Lettuce (Mt Vernon, 45 miles)
- Tomato (Mt Vernon, 45 miles)
- Cucumber (Mt Vernon, 45 miles)
- Rogue Creamery Blue Cheese (Oregon, 200 miles)
- Vinaigrette (home made)
OLS meal 7.2 happened tonight. I’m home alone as Thursday’s are the night that Mike goes to the bow range with the guys. I decided to take advantage of my haul from the farmers’ market last night. I love this time of year because all of my favorite produce is in season. No pictures as I was so excited to dig into each part of it that I completely forgot. I ate in courses and had fresh tomatoes with balsamic vinegar (non-local) while I cooked baby potatoes in a skillet with onions and dill. I finished off with some fresh green beans and butter. And for dessert, a fresh nectarine.
- Frog Song Farm Potatoes and onions (Fir Island, 31 miles)
- Tomato (Mt Vernon, 45 miles)
- Green Beans (Mt. Vernon, 45 miles)

Laura, Thank you for including our Oregon Blue cheese in your menu. It is really nice that you included home grown eggs, chives and home made vinaigrette in your menu. One of my favorite egg scramble recipes includes spinach, carmelized onions and Oregon Blue. Cheers, David - Cheesemaker
Wow David! Thanks for stopping by! We’ll have to give your recipe a try this week. We definitely have the eggs to justify another eggy dinner. I included a link to your site in my OLS 7.3 & 7.4 post.
