One Local Summer Week #9
Aug 20th, 2007 by Laura
Back in July Jamie over at 10 Signs Like This made corn chowder for her OLS meal. It sounded delicious and I decided that once the corn came in we would give her recipe a try. Wow! It was every bit as good as it sounded. I made a couple of minor changes, but not many - mostly we made it exactly as she called for.

The best part is there’s enough left for me to have lunch tomorrow too. Changes that I made to the recipe were the addition of bacon (as did Jamie), green pepper (instead of red), no celery, 3 cups of chicken stock, 2 cups of chopped potatoes and 1 cup of heavy cream. We had rolls with creamy butter on the side.
- Hempler’s bacon (Bellingham, 60 miles) - but the pigs are from Oregon
- Sweet corn (Yakima, 156 miles)
- Green pepper (Yakima, 156 miles)
- Frog’s Song Farm onion (Fir Island, 31 miles)
- Basil and thyme (front porch, 0 miles)
- Water (tap)
- Gypsy Rows red potatoes (Silvana, 20 miles)
- Golden Glen Creamery heavy cream and butter (Bow, 46 miles)
- Essential Baking Co dinner rolls (Seattle, 30 miles)

I love naming where everything in a meal comes from too. The farms are minature haiku’s, bits of poetry and I can see the farmers or seller’s face and it does make everything taste better. Thank you for sharing the pleasure.
You’re welcome. I love going to the market and seeing all the same faces, and the new ones, every week. I spread my purchases out every week, being sure to buy at least one thing from all of my regular farmers.
