The State Fair
Aug 25th, 2007 by Laura
I’ve lived in Washington for eight years and have never been to the state fair here. We’re always out of town or too busy or too whatever to go. Which is a bummer since we went every year when I was a kid in Minnesota. Last night we planned to go to a movie, but then Mike suggested we go to the fair instead (it’s only 30 minutes from our house). Turns out he was trying to bribe me to get out of going to my co-worker’s wedding today (ha!) but we had fun anyway.
We went to the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe. It’s one of two state fairs here in the Puget Sound region. Of the two it’s the smaller, but has more of a focus on the 4H programs and traditional fair feel than the other (or so says Mike). It was the perfect size. In just under 3 hours we saw all the barns, had a purple cow and a scone, saw the nightly fireworks show and explored the antique tractor exhibit.
I forgot my camera and so instead took some photos with my phone. But now my phone won’t give them back to me, so, oh well. Our favorite barns were the goats, the pigs (they had a three-day old litter on display), the sheep and the draft horses. The poultry barn was interesting, but no one had any really spectacular breeds on display.
It was a nice relaxing evening of hanging out at the fair. I may try to go back on Thursday when Mike is at the range with the guys to see the draft horse event - have to see if I can talk one of my girlfriends into going with me.
Now off to get all gussied up for a formal wedding. Always fun to get dressed up and go out together.
