Great information. We became aware of the dangers to the environment and health this summer when we became involved in fighting a soon to be constructed hog CAFO in our neighborhood. We are now buying only local family-farm grown meats. It is really frightening what can come out of a CAFO and it is certainly more than just meat.

Really great post! We switched to local grass-fed beef this spring (right after reading The Omnivore's dilemma), and I can't imagine buying CAFO beef - or even grain-finished beef - ever again. There's something comforting and intrinsically _right_ about being able to look into the eye of the person who raises the beef that you eat, and know that the farmer cares deeply for his animals' welfare.

Thanks for this great information. I recently had a discussion with my husband after reading Animal Vegetable Miracle about this topic. He kept insisting that cows have to have grain in their diet. I am going to have him read this later so we can discuss further.

Great post. Local, organic, ethically grown food is the way to go, and you're right, everyone wins.

Here is my post for Blog Action Day.
