Last night Mike and I had dinner at Tilth. We were supposed to go to Phoenix for Christmas – but didn’t so that we can spend the whole week getting our house in order – and dinner at Tilth was our special celebration for just the two of us. Even though we’ll now be spending Christmas on our own, we decided to keep our reservations and enjoy the night out. It was our Christmas present to each other (along with the new flat panel LCD television* that we’re avoiding making a big deal about since it feels so consumeristic) and I enjoyed every minute of our night out.
Dinner was everything I hoped for and expected. Even Mike enjoyed it – he tried to deny it today, but he cleaned every plate put in front of him so I know he didn’t mean it. The ambiance was fantastic, the food was amazing and it was worth every precious penny.
We had a selection of small and large plates. We started with a tuna salad small plate, progressed to butter lettuce salad (Mike) and blue hubbard squash soup (me) then had Oregon quail (Mike) and salmon with more squash (me), followed up by apple tart tatin (shared) and butternut squash custard (shared). Every bit was delicious!
If you’re ever in Seattle and you have a chance to dine at Tilth, make sure that you do. Next time we go I’m going to insist that we share a selection of small plates instead of ordering our own courses. That said, we did enough sharing last night that we might as well have shared.
* to be fair, neither of us has ever purchased a TV before, and this one will likely be in our home for the next 10 years. but still, it feels like a big deal…

Tonight we had spaghetti squash with dinner. And Mike ate it and admitted that he didn’t hate it. Even that he would eat it again if it was put in front of him. Score one for squash against my squash hating husband. Now I might not have to eat the other 8 in our cupboard all by myself…

Strangely, spaghetti squash is the one variety of squash I didn’t have to fight my husband to try. I think he must have been in one of his rare ‘open to new foods’ moods. They happen once every decade.
I should have taken advantage of it and served him brussels sprouts [for the 20 billionth time - he flatly refuses to try them].
Hello,
Could you write about the chickens, the dog, your garden etc.
Nicole – strangely Mike is a huge fan of brussels sprouts but a serious hater of all things squash.
Chloe – I’ll try, but they’re not really the most urgent things happening around here right now. This time of year the hens aren’t all that interesting to write about but are fun to hang out with. And hard to get photos of as we’ve locked them in the coop for the duration until we move. The gardens are done for the year, except for new mulch later this week so they’re pretty boring too. Of course the dogs are endless entertainment year round so I’ll do my best to get some photos up soon! Thanks for reading along!
Laura,
Good to hear such a glowing review of Tilth! My husband and I have been dying to try it since we moved to the Big City. How has your Dark Days challenge been coming? All the best, and Happy New Year.
