Seven Things

I took a tag from Maggie on Friday for the seven random things meme. Mostly because I didn’t want to come up with a blog topic for today. Only when I started writing this did I realize that it was just as much work as a regular post…

1. After 20 years of being a glasses wearer I just started wearing contacts for the first time a month ago. I promised myself lasic for my 30th birthday but I’m still too chicken to do it. So instead I pulled up my big girl panties and finally learned to touch my eyeballs so that I can wear contacts. And now I’m wondering why the hell I didn’t do this 10 years ago?

2. While I love to take photos, I’m more of a nature and random everyday events photographer. I don’t like to shoot “still lifes”. Therefore, most of the photos that appear in my banner are either purchased from istockphoto or downloaded at stock.xchng. I save all the ones I like in my lightbox and choose a new one every 3-4 weeks. None have cost me more than $4.

3. I dance as well as your average heifer but I’m a sucker for dance movies. I am in fact watching Take the Lead right now as I type this. Other favorites include Dirty Dancing, Flashdance, Save the Last Dance and Strictly Ballroom. Free random fact: while Mike and I have been together for almost 9 years, we shared our first formal dance moment just this past summer at one of my coworker’s wedding.

4. My favorite color in the whole world is lime green - the same color as the eggs in the current banner. It started out as a fun wool pea coat and a purse and has escalated to include a big chunk of my wardrobe. It’s a rare day when I don’t have any green somewhere on me, whether it’s a purse, shirt, sweater, skirt, coat, necklace or my glasses. May as well call me Kermit.

5. I don’t like to wear socks. Never have, likely never will. I go sockless in all manner of shoes, including my bike shoes, unless it’s too cold to do so. Hiking and ski boots and running shoes are the only exceptions.

6. I call to the girls whenever I walk out to their coop - here chook chook chook. They start up hollering and I’m sure we’re all obnoxious to the neighbors.

7. I secretly really want to own a couple of pygmy goats because they make me laugh. Mike does not want goats. Therefore they are most likely to appear when he’s gone on his elk hunting trip this fall…

Here are the rules for the meme:

  • Once you are tagged, link back to the person who tagged you.
  • Post these rules on your blog.
  • Post 7 random or weird facts about yourself on your blog.
  • Tag 7 people and link to them. Comment on their blog to let them know they have been tagged for the ring.
  • I’m not going to tag people as I think this meme has been making the rounds for a while. If you’d like to take a tag, please just leave a note in comments and link back here.

  • So funny — I was just telling Cameron last night how much I love your rotating banners. :)

Oh, and what about “Shall We Dance?” in the dance-movie genre?

  • I want goats, too, and am running up against the same wall you mention - spousal resistance. My husband will be gone for five weeks for Coast Guard training this summer. It will be interesting to see if any four-legged creatures “appear” in our yard while he’s gone ;).

  • I love your lime green eggs. I get a kick out of it whenever I check your site. Green is my fav color, too. Although that brown egg you had on here for a while was just gorgeous, too!

Me, too on the goats! If I had my way I’d have a little flock of 2-3 dwarf nigerian goats. Maybe some day. My husband keeps asking me why I get goat catalogs in the mail, and I tell him it’s for all the cheesemaking stuff they carry. And that’s the truth. Mostly. ;-)

I would also love to have a small flock of chooks again - I had a nice little batch of yard chickens once upon a longago, and I’ve missed them ever since. And the ducks. The ducks were raised with the chickens and they thought they were chickens, too. Watching a duck try to roost is hilarious.

  • Anita and Idaho Locavore - thanks for the banner love! I really enjoy finding great egg photos.

Wendy - yep, I’m pretty sure that a couple pygmies might show up at our place in October when Mike is gone. Assuming we have fencing by then that is.
