First of all, a big thank you to Ellen, Farm Mom and Kim for their posts this weekend - I definitely appreciate the help and they all did a fantastic job! If they missed you, blame it on me as I provided the list and guidelines for the recaps. I’m going to edit Ellen’s post tomorrow to add in Melinda and Anita. If you got missed as well, please leave a note and I’ll add you at the same time.

Now I’m supposed to post about welding. I’m totally braindead from the stress of a busy couple weeks at work combined with packing and signing my life away. And arranging to go on vacation starting March 7. I’d tell you where, but then what would I post about next week?
Anyway, I asked Mike to pick a topic for tonight, any topic and said I would write about it. Of course he decided to try to stump me and so picked welding. Now he’s acting all surprised that I really agreed. Of course I said I would write about it, not have an opinion or anything enlightening to offer.
Ever since I saw Flashdance decades ago I’ve thought it would be cool to learn to weld. To be that tough yet sexy woman that knows how to make metal do her will. That can fix and mend and create and invent. Of course, just like I can’t dance, I definitely haven’t learned to weld. I think it’s one of those things that I likely shouldn’t either - the few times I’ve ever used a blowtorch I think I’m lucky to have not burned the house down. But maybe I’ll put welding on my list of things I should learn someday.
Now look at that! I managed a fair number of words about welding. And if you’ve read this far and your eyes haven’t glazed over or rolled back in your head I’m impressed.

Well, Laura, if you ever want to do a big metal sculpture on your new property, welding will be a useful skill. Otherwise, maybe not so much. For me, although I am definitely into learning new things these days, I’d have to say that welding would be WAY down on the list. Knitting or gardening sound much safer.
Well, now I can say that we’ve been linked from a post about welding. That’s pretty cool
Don’t you need to weld, um, I dunno… there’s gotta be something on that huge new farm of yours to weld.
Joan - I dunno, I know how to knit already
I kind of figured I’d start with using a rototiller and see where we go from there.
Anita - You’re welcome! Mike’s possibly bringing one of the trackhoes up to our house for some work and repair. If he gets out the welding equipment I might have to convince him to let me try…
Anita, I was thinking the same thing!
I do know how to weld, though - surprise! I actually like it, and I’m good at it, but I haven’t really had a use for it. I used to make - ahem - metal sculptures, along with work made of many other materials. It’s probably as safe as gardening. Makes you feel very much like being in Flashdance. (Dude, I loved that scene when I was a kid!)
