Sorry the blogging is slow. I feel like everything is in slow motion, including thinking of things to write. We’re in that slow motion phase of big changes. The part where you feel like you’re just waiting and time is moving so slowly and the moment will never come and you’ve got plenty of time to get your act together. And at the same time you know that any second now you’re going to realize that you’ve run out of time and the moment is now. That’s where we are.
We’ve started disassembling our lives here in the city piece by piece. The basement is mostly packed, just those things we’re not sure what to do with left. The garage has changed from a place of clutter and tools galore to mostly bare and empty. My office is packed except for the magazines waiting to be recycled and the computer. All that’s really left is our clothing, the clutter in the living room and the kitchen. All slated for packing this weekend.
We took down the extra run for the chicken coop on Sunday. Turns out that I’m better at cementing fence posts than I thought. We gave up trying to break them free and instead just cut them off as far down as we could. The girls are bummed, but it’s nice to know that step is done.
The utilities have been set for cancellation on the 29th. And those at the new house set for connection on the 1st. All except the cable/phone/internet which won’t be connected until the 3rd. We’ve made arrangements to board the dogs and cat from the 28th – 2nd so that we don’t have to worry about them while we’re loading out the house and moving our lives.
We’ve reserved the biggest truck U-haul rents with plenty of furniture blankets. And we’ve lined up friends to come and help us load furniture Thursday night and unload Friday night. We’ve even convince a couple to help us drive vehicles and boats from one house to the other that night.
It seems like we’re doing okay. But I still feel this nagging panic that we’ll never be ready in time. Of course, that’s likely just my Type A personality shining through. Obviously I’m not that concerned or I’d be packing dishes instead of typing right now…

I wish I was nearby — I actually love packing and unpacking. (The lifting and carrying… not so much.)
I can’t believe this is happening so fast. It seem like only yesterday you were thinking “maybe….”
SO, Laura, I am curious about your blog’s name now: ExUrban Hennery? Unlike Anita, I have no interest in packing and unpacking, but I do wish you well on this move! How very very exciting. So much to do. Make sure, for yourselves, that you take a lot of “before” pictures!
Anita – I know! We’re in a bit of shock. And when we get going talking about all the plans we’ve got we both get a bit overwhelmed. Then we remember that we’ve got plenty of time to make it happen and we both start to smile.
El – We will definitely take before photos – I love going back and looking at them for the current house. Funny you should ask about the blog name. Mike and I were talking about it the other day and I think Anita actually named it – she suggested The Not-So-Urban Hennery jokingly (I think) a couple of weeks ago. We haven’t come up with anything better so I think that’s what we’re going with. Thanks Anita!
