Happy Birthday!
Mar 7th, 2008 by Laura
Today is my 30th birthday. And I’m apparently a weirdo because instead of being upset and depressed about it, I’m actually quite happy to be 30. Not sure why. Maybe it just feels like I’m finally an adult? Or maybe because Mike is a decade plus older than I, as are most of our friends, and so it finally feels like I’m part of the club, not the young tag-a-long? Or maybe just that I got the best birthday present ever - a barn! and 3.5 acres! and a hen shack!
Anyway. Yay! It’s my birthday!
Long before we knew we’d be moving last weekend we made plans to take the train to Whitefish and go skiing. By the time we had a final closing date, it was too late to cancel the reservation, so off we’re going. We’re shutting the door and leaving the pile of boxes behind and hitting the slopes.
But first we’re taking the Empire Builder route on Amtrak from Everett, WA to Whitefish, MT with friends. I’ve always wanted to take the train somewhere in the US. I’ve always loved taking the train in Europe so hopefully it will be just as enjoyable here. I’m taking the camera and hopefully we’ll get some good shots of snow, mountains and countryside.
It’s my turn to do the Dark Days Recap, but since we won’t be back until Wednesday morning, it will be a bit late. Look for it that night. Over and out.

happy birthday!! I just celebrated a big birthday, too, and it didn’t faze me one bit.
Have a blast in Whitefish.
Happy 30th Birthday, you spring chicken!!!
I turn 42 years young this year!
I took the train from New Mexico to Washington DC about 11 years ago, and it is one of my very best memories. There is something so wonderful about traveling by train. I met many interesting people and saw places that I might not have ever seen.
I’ll look forward to reading and seeing pictures of your train travels soon.
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your trip - it sounds great.
Enjoy your little break from moving chaos, and have a happy birthday!
Happy birthday! I hope you’re having a great weekend!
Oh to be 30 again…
Happy birthday. Hope you have a great one!

Laura, stop being a younger version of me… I got a farm for my 30th birthday too!!
Hope your train trip was grand… we have plans to ride down to Georgia next month.
Congratulations on your 30th birthday! The thirties are a wonderful time. I am hoping that my birthday gift next year (when I turn 41) will be similar to yours (the barn, the farm). Enjoy your lovely holiday!
Hey Laura, happy birthday and happy farm!
IMO, life gets so much better as you get older… so enjoy this time of growth and exploration!
Happy Birthday! I get excited each year getting older as well. It makes me feel more relaxed, like I have more “street cred” with every new year of life under my belt
Happy Birthday! I agree with Jennifer, life gets so much better as you get older. Who said youth was wasted on the young? Jeez, my memory is failing, but they were right!
