Some people buy themselves furniture, flowers, candles or other niceties as housewarming presents. Not me I guess.
The very first thing I bought “for the new house” was a pair of pig farmers for me. I have a pair of Wellingtons (traditional black), but they came free with the last house and are about 2 sizes two big. If I’m going to be traipsing in and out all the time around here and doing “lots of projects”, I need something that I can just slip on and that fits well.
So this is them. Of course I bought them at the farm store down by the old house that was tiny and never has much selection of anything. My choices were gray, brown or black. I picked the gray ones because they fit the best.
Then on a trip to Skagit Farm Supply I discovered that they have them in green, blue, pink and yellow for spring. I might just have to get another pair. A girl needs a work pair and a “dress” pair of pig farmers, right?
Of course you need a pair of dress boots! You need to have a back up pair. What if you step on a nail? Or get the upper side caught on some wire? What if you are working in lots of mud and the mud get caked on 5 inches thick? You would need clean ones to go into the girls house. Yes, I know you could hose the old ones off first, but that could take lots of time, and you might rather do all the clean up at the end of the day, so you are doing all the clean up at once. There are many reasons you “need” dress pig farmers.

Oooh. I may need to look into a pair of those. I have a couple pairs of garden clogs (which I adore) but they just don’t cut it for really messy jobs and rainy weather - the hems of my pants and my socks end up wet & dirty.
I think your boots are great! I wish I could just find a good pair that fits. I recently bought a pair of brown ‘dairy’ boots at Walmart (Have I mentioned that I’m don’t like Walmart?). Anyway, they were only $15.00 and I really needed them as we were ankle deep in mud for about a week, but the darn things are a tad bit too narrow (on the right foot) for my feet. They hurt!
And I don’t think you can ‘wear in’ a pair of rubber boots like you can typical shoes, can you?
I tried to buy some muck boots at our local farm store and they don’t carry a sz 10 wide for women.
I’d love love to find some pretty muck boots that fit AND don’t look like muck boots. heheh
Of course you need two pair! Use the grey ones for your house guests that come over to visit. Surely your friends will want to see the land you’ve been working so hard on, but they won’t think to bring rubber boots.
Also, what happens it you poke a hole or get water in your boots? You need a spare to quickly change into.
This is how I get myself into trouble at plant stores… Always a way to rationalize.
