In the gloaming

Last night I took a walk during that time between afternoon and dusk. When it’s no longer really daylight but not really evening either - the gloaming I think they call it. I walked down to end of our street, it dead ends about 1.25 miles from our house.
I’ve driven down there a couple of times just to see what was there. But it’s different to walk something than to drive it. When you walk you have time to look around, to see what’s beyond the edge of the road, to take it all in.
Last night made me appreciate even more moving out here where things are farther apart. The only other life I saw, aside from 5 cars, was a handful of bunnies, some Hereford steers, a dozen or so horses and a funny little dog that barked it’s head off at me from inside its house.
It was quiet and peaceful and not hurried. The water rushing down the ditch sounded like a stream, the view towards the mountains was what I associate with mountain vacations.
In the gloaming it was really just me and my thoughts. And the more I looked the more I saw. No owls yet, but I did see a red tailed hawk. I’m guessing that if I keep my eyes open I might spot an owl, a coyote or even an eagle.

That’s my favorite time of day to take a walk as well.
