Daily Photo: Mini Rooster?
Apr 3rd, 2008 by Laura

I still haven’t named any of the chicks - not sure why, maybe because I’m waiting for them to finish feathering out, or maybe just because it’s been so busy around here.
It might turn out to be a good thing, because I think that this little one is a rooster. I know I know, it’s hard to tell at 3 weeks. But it’s something about the way he stands. Plus he’s getting a pretty obvious comb and small red wattles already.
Isn’t he cute though? He’s one of the bantam chicks so will be a itty bitty rooster if he is one. I love the feathered feet which are black and white in person. And the feathered fringe on his knees? So adorable.
Very cute indeed. When I was little, back in the late fifitie, my grandfather used to have some hens in his bakcyard. I remember being captivated by the tiny chicks, I also gave them names. Fun memories!
Hi Laura, having a rooster around is a good thing. It’s just not a farm w/o one!!
She/he is a cutie either way!!
at least you don’t have to worry about neighbors turning you in for having an illegal rooster in the city! You can have a whole chorus crowing in the morning and it would be just fine.
Very Cute, I love the fuzzy little toes. We just went and got outselves 6 more today; Brown Leghorns. This weekend I’m building the coop for the big chooks. I agree with you too, the roosters certainly do seem to carry themselves like they rule the roost.
P~
Whatever he/she is, sure is adorable! Might be rooster because of getting comb growth so early, though.
I don’t know my chickens either, until the feather out and show their true colors, patterns and personalities……until then they are all called ‘chickies’! hehe
Whoops…I meant to say “I don’t NAME my chickens”..
Sorry!
He looks like a mini rooster to me too.
We also waited to name our chickens until they were all feathered out and living outside. Of course part of that reason was because we couldn’t tell them apart when they were so little!
