Dead Tired

There are weekends that make you long to go back to work on Monday. This was almost one of them.

Saturday was one of those gorgeous days that Seattleites don’t tell outsiders about. People that don’t live here don’t know that we sometimes get 80 degree days in April. For those of us that do live here they are soul sustaining. They keep us going through the next 2 months of rainy dreary days while we wait for summer. But if we told you about them you might want to move here…

I spent 5 hours in the garden Saturday at my gardening class. We covered watering techniques, planting, transplanting, season extending and perennials. It was a great way to end the series of classes. I, of course, ended up sunburned.

Then I went to the nursery near our house and scored 30 4″ clay pots for $3. Plus organic potting soil and a half gallon rosemary plant.

Just as I turned onto our street at 5 pm I got a call from our friends Todd and Shelli asking if we’d like to go horseback riding. Mike was still on his way back from fishing the Columbia for spring King, so I said “yes!”. We rode until 7:30 and I drove home with the sun setting.

Today started off mellow and the predicted rain held off for a while. In the end I spent 4 hours outside. I potted up tomatoes, artichokes and broccoli and brought them back inside. Then I turned in compost and made ready a 20′x4′ bed for onions. I put in 150 starts - one third each Walla Walla Sweet, Red Burgermaster and Copra.

I wrapped up the day by weeding and turning over a bed in the herb garden and planting rosemary.

Finally we had our friends Ron and Mia (plus their daughter) up for dinner and enjoyed spring salmon that was swimming yesterday. A wonderful weekend in the sense that I feel like we got a lot done, but exhausting just the same.

  • Wow, those things you did all sound fun! It’s kind of like going on vacation, and vacationing so hard that when you get back you need a vacation from your vacation? :)
