Plants are remarkably resilient. I put a couple of poppies into our back garden a week or two ago that were looking distinctly, mortally ill. They started to struggle back, to the point that the stalks holding up their flower buds have a 90-degree turn in them, from horizontal to vertical. Unfortunately, I had a friend around this weekend to help in the back garden. He assumed - and acted on his assumption without asking - that the poppies were weeds. He very forcefully drew a garden rake over one of them before I could stop him. No more flower head for that one. I've stuck the head in the ground next to the plant, and am keeping my fingers crossed, but I somehow doubt that plants are *that* resilient!
