Old Friends, New Babies
Jun 15th, 2008 by Laura

I had the absolute joy of spending 24 hours this weekend with my good friend Heather (hi H!). We’ve been friends for more than a decade, meeting in college in Salt Lake City. She and her husband moved to Portland from SLC a couple of years ago, but we still don’t see each other nearly as often as we should. My fault mostly.
It’s amazing how easy it is to lose every day intimacy with someone that you truly value, and equally surprising when reconnecting is easier than you think it should be. While we might not spend as much time together as we should, or speak as often as we’d like, there’s a bond between us that’s tougher than all the abuse we’ve subjected it to.
Anyway, she and her charming husband are expecting their first child, a boy, in late July. This weekend was her baby shower and there was no way I would miss it! I had a great time with her and all of her Portland friends. I can’t wait to meet her son and get to watch her become the wonderful mother that I know she will be.

We spent the afternoon at the shower, then dinner at Marco’s with her husband and his sister and her baby. Marco’s was great - I would definitely recommend it both for lunch or dinner. After that we joined some friends for a twilight visit to the rose gardens - gorgeous!
