Well, it’s been almost 4 weeks since I started my new job at our local public utility district. The district I work for provides electricity for our county as well as water to a small subset of their customers and wholesale water to a lot of the local cities.
I’ve been thinking about how to start sharing everything I’m learning with you, and I’d like to ask your opinion.
I’m contemplating writing a post every other Wednesday about what’s happening in the US energy market, information about how you can reduce your power usage (and your carbon footprint), insight into private generation like solar panels, wind turbines and geothermal heat, and more.Â
Are you interested? Is that old news? What would you like to hear and learn about? If you’ve got a minute, answer the polling questions below and add any other thoughts or specifics into comments.

I think the energy thing is a great idea. Although I will say I miss hearing about your chickens. I know I am not an active commentor on the site. Every now and then I comment on a blog here or there, but I do love hearing about your chickens. I don’t have chickens. I am a college student, working two jobs and living in the dorms, dreaming about owning chickens.
I am really interested in solar! We’re remodeling after the first of the year, and panels are one thing that I would like to install. We’re doing bamboo flooring as well, along with energy star. Any info is great….but, hey, we’ll still hear about the chickens right???
Of course you’ll still hear about the chickens and everything else. This is just for every other Wednesday. A bi-monthly Watt’s Up if you will… So don’t worry, you’re not giving up anything else.
I think that is a great idea, but don’t lose your focus of showing how much food you can grow–your site is truly inspiring!
I think it would be helpful to hear how other people are able to use alternative energy sources and consider applications locally. Fossil fuel is running out and becoming more expensive–we need to develop other sources ASAP. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like sitting in the dark, cold showers, etc. There are some things that I just don’t want to not have! I know that I could survive without them, but I truly enjoy the few luxuries that we indulge.
You have a very interesting web site and I certainly will stop by from time to time. I voted as well. Thank you.
