Upcoming Local Farm Tours

In two weeks there are two excellent opportunities to tour farms in Snohomish and Skagit counties. Since Mike will be out of town on his annual elk bow hunt I think I’m going to join in them both!

Skagit Valley Harvest Tour
Presented by the North Cascades Institute, this full day tour on Sunday, September 21 gives you the opportunity to meet some of the Skagit Valley’s leading small farmers and provides a behind-the-scenes look at the practices that sustain the operations of the Institute’s closest farm partners. Included in the tour are stops at Larkspur Farm, Jones Creek Farm, Blue Heron Farm, Skagit River Ranch, the Cascadian Farm Stand. The day includes lunch harvested from the farms visited and wraps up with wine tasting at Marblemount’s Glacier Peak Winery.

I registered earlier this week after seeing a mention somewhere else only to find that the tour is in danger of being canceled for lack of interest. If you’d like to join me, please register by September 14 to keep it from being cancelled. The cost is $125 but the price is cheap when you consider the opportunity to connect with leading local farmers as well as taste their produce and some excellent wine.

Harvest Jubilee
If free is more your style, the day before, Saturday, September 20, is the Stanwood, Camano Island and Silvana Harvest Jubilee. I’m planning to start my day at the old fashioned farm breakfast, then tour the farms, pop into the farmer’s market and finish it off with with some wine tasting at the Camano Wine Cellars. If you’re interested in joining me, drop me a note and we can arrange to join the festivities together!
