The first of the seed orders arrived on Saturday from Seeds of Change. Getting all those pretty little envelopes is always so much fun, although I’m not sure I like their new plastic sleeves (too slippery).
Now it’s time to figure out the garden plan as I’ll need to start the first rounds of seeds this weekend (onions and leeks). There’s a bit of dirt, fence and driveway moving going on – thanks to my hard working husband – and the net result is room to expand the garden and add to the fruit tree collection.
That means I have to reorganize the thoughts and intentions that I jotted down last fall and as I went through seed catalogs. I know a lot of other gardeners use paper, or beautiful hand sketches but I have neither a steady hand nor artistic ability. Instead my copy of InDesign and I are good friends this time of year.
Pay no attention to the color coding – there’s really no logic behind it unless you’re me. It’s not by planting date, family, water use or anything sensical, just my own shorthand way of organizing. I’ll ponder this for the next few weeks until Mike actually pulls the sod off for the new rows. Then I’ll call it done. And then I’ll revisit it as I start planting and find myself with too much room for some things and not enough for others. Stay tuned, I will of course post it when it’s closer to being done.
Now, off to finish off my half of the Dark Days recap for this week.

please do not show that screenshot to my obsessive/compulsive husband

Oh, you know I will. And if I’m really feeling spunky I might even let him check it out when you’re here next month… Of course, I could be bribed out of it…
I’m nowhere near as organized as this, so your plan looks amazing. Are you planting the onions and leeks outside straight away, or starting them inside?
Goodness! I’m so far behind just picking out what seeds to order this year…let alone figuring out where to plant them! (but in my zone I don’t have to worry about planting stuff outside until the end of May…although I will start lots of stuff inside. )
I’m working on my garden plan, too, but yours looks amazing! Is Indesign the new PageMaker? I’m using Powerpoint but am not impressed….
Very impressive. Mine is on scraps of paper and in my head and keeps changing so I can’t remember what is going where.
Oh my goodness! Look at you and your beautiful chart! I’m impressed!
