{112:365} Leaping In

When we decided to move up here it was partly so that we could eventually get horses. Well, it seems that eventually is now!

Tonight we bought ourselves a horse trailer. Our purchase either makes us quirky and conservative, or crazy, depending on your perspective. We paid a pittance for a 1973 Circle J two-horse trailer. It’s essentially stock, with only minor updates such as a new floor and new vinyl on the pads.

The fact that it’s rust colored conveniently hides the cosmetic rust on both the inside and the outside. It needs new tires and Mike’s not sure that the brakes are working. But the beauty of a 36 year old trailer is that it is, at heart, pretty damn basic and we’re more than capable of making all the minor repairs that it needs.

It’s going to cost us a grand total of $19 to register it, but I think we’re going to ante up for the “collector” plate to add to it’s campy character.

Mike is taking next week off to put up a fence. Then we can make actual purchase decisions about horses. I’m in love with Cody, but it seems foolhardy to buy the first horse that I’ve actually test ridden, especially considering his asking price. I’m checking out a couple more horses on Saturday and then I’ll see where I am on considering Cody.

Yay!!! Please take a few pic’s of the trailer. It’ll be great when you and Mike BOTH have horses. Then you can take them up into the cascades with your camping gear, dogs, and go into the ‘back country’.

Your mom and I aren’t that familiar with the Cascades, but, I’ll bet there are some really cool places to take your ‘campy’ trailer and hit the slopes!!

  • How exciting! I grew up in a semi-rural area, and there was a stable within walking distance of my home. Visiting the horses was one of my favourite things to do. Good luck with your shopping!

  • Oh, I’m quite jealous. I grew up on horseback and miss it tremendously.

Exciting! If you don’t mind traveling a bit, look at Spokane craigslist because prices are dirt cheap and there are tons for sale.

    Good luck in your search!

  • Very exciting developments! How does one find horses to test drive? It seems like such a big investment, and just one or two rides are enough? Good luck, hope it goes smoothly!
