Summer Tastes Divine

IMG_8627.JPG

I have been neglecting you dear readers, and for that I apologize. You see, it’s been busy around here. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to experience life and write about it this summer.

I promise it will get better the closer we get to fall. And yes, I know it’s been a long time since there were pictures of chickens or garden. But you know what? The garden is so weedy you don’t want to see it. And the chickens? They all look like murderers right now because they spend all day eating the over ripe cherries falling from the wild tree behind their house.

So instead of what you want, all I can offer you is this picture. It’s our entire harvest of raspberries and blueberries to date. Our canes and bushes just went in in February, so we didn’t expect much this year. Luckily, few though they are, they taste amazingly delicious.

We’re off on vacation Saturday to Ely, MN. I’ll do my level best to make sure I post at least a picture or two while we’re there…

  • Oh, murderous chickens. The picture in my head is too funny!

  • lol–I agree with Mandy–that’s great, and I can totally picture it.

And I can certainly relate to weedy gardens–mine is awful–and first year berry harvests (http://5woodedacres.blogspot.com/2009/07/first-blueberry.html) Here’s hoping that both of our newly-planted berry bushes earn their keep next year!

Isn’t Ely, MN where that wolf rescue is? Are you going to stop in to see them? No affiliation–I just always thought it would be cool (http://www.wolf.org/wolves/index.asp)

  • We too are enjoying summer’s bounty. We have tons of black raspberries & strawberries tucked away in the freezer, and the blackberries are coming ripe. Sadly the deer nibbled our blueberry bushes over the winter so no blueberries here.

Hahahhaha I LOVE the image of the chickens. I’d be highly entertained by a photo of that.

I went berrypicking near my hometown today and the house is full of delights like those pictured above. Mmmm.

  • Ah, those berries look so good! Our berry season was over a month ago….

Hope you have a great vacation!

  • I was canning peaches yesterday, and more than a few went straight into my mouth - but all the while, I was thinking just that, summer tastes divine. Enjoy it!

  • This summer has been crazy busy. I feel like I am neglecting my blog in exchange for enjoying sunshine, school and the garden, so you are not alone! I’d love to see pictures of the murderous chicks with cherry juice on their faces :)
