This blog started when we were living on a city lot in Everett, WA. At the time my husband Mike and I lived in a small brick house with 2 large dogs, a cat and 6 hens. We had dreams of moving to our own acreage near the city, but hadn’t had any luck finding a home / land that would work for us.
In late January 2008 the stars aligned (and the real estate prices dropped) and we found a perfect 3.5 acre “farmette” in Arlington, WA. We lucked out and sold our city house in record time. We moved to our new place on February 29, 2008 and have been counting our lucky stars ever since.
Urban Hennery started as a place to write about my experiences raising hens in the city. As a result of making a place for the “girls” in our lives, our approach to food and eating has fundamentally shifted. And so has this blog. Now it is as much about what we’re eating and where it came from as the hens and our everyday lives.
Today this blog is officially the (not so) Urban Hennery but our stories and adventures continue to build on our early experiences and adventures in the city. Join us here as we begin our journey to becoming more self sufficient and less “plugged in”.
