Spring arrived with a bit of a warm bluster around here. It wasn’t quite the day we’d planned, for a lot of reasons, but spring began anyway and it started with cleaning and seedlings. While Mike turned the manure/compost pile and managed the brush burning pile, I organized seedlings and hauled chicken feed various places. So [...] Two straight weeks of bronchitis isn’t slowing Annette down (even though she says it is). She managed yet another impressive array of Sustainable Eats this week, including omelettes, chile con carne with corn muffins, whole-wheat pizzas with homemade sausage, plus homemade English muffins and a potato-y breakfast scramble. Amy rejoins the challenge this week with a [...] Brittney at Rock Solid is finding it easier to come up with locavore meal options, heading into week 7. She made a breakfast strata this week, a great way to use up odds and ends in the fridge — mushrooms, leeks, and Cougar Gold cheese — and served it with a side of sunny, home-canned [...] Middle:: Aagaard Farms had another type of meal I think we can all appreciate: the one pot meal! This one featured a beef roast, root veggies and kabocha squash. I’ve never thought of including squash with a roast and root veggies, and I can’t wait to try it! This is the type of meal that [...] Got you, didn’t I? So there really are Hookers in our garden, it’s just that they’re actually ears of corn, not streetwalkers. The ears are gorgeous, but unfortunately we waited too long to pick them and they’re quite starchy. Ah well, the horses and the chickens are enjoying them an ear at a time when [...] See that big 103 over there? Suffice it to say, it was 103F here on Wednesday] Yeah, it’s been a brutal return home from our week in Minnesota. We broke all kinds of records yesterday, and while [...] The first of the seed orders arrived on Saturday from Seeds of Change. Getting all those pretty little envelopes is always so much fun, although I’m not sure I like their new plastic sleeves (too slippery). Now it’s time to figure out the garden plan as I’ll need to start the first rounds of seeds this [...] |
