How To Update The Firmware
There are many ways of updating the firmware on your Nokia handset. To install the software on your device using FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air), type in *#0000# on the home screen or go to Device Manager. Then select Options, Check for updates and follow the on screen prompts. If the firmware update is not immediately available via FOTA, or the device you are using does not have support for this service, you can also update your firmware using NSU (Nokia Software Updater) and or Nokia Ovi Suite on your PC. Once you plug your device in, select the PC Suite option, ensuring that the phone has a Sim Card inserted and the profile is set to General. Some devices support UDP (User Data Preservation), which will preserve all your data and content on your device during these updates. However we still recommend you do a full backup in order to guarantee the safety of your data. Please share your thoughts and experiences with the new firmware in the comments below.

0800 Numbers Will Soon Become Free From Mobile Phones
When I read this article today I have to say I was quite pleased to see some action finally being taken regarding this issue. So far, Communication Service Providers such as T-Mobile, O2 and Orange have been charging customers for making calls to what would be free phone numbers if dialled from UK landlines. Moreover, cost of calls to non-geographical numbers are very vague to say the least. Well, this is all about to change. Hit the jump to find out more.
OfCom today finally forwarded a proposal that will see calls made from mobile phones to 0800 numbers become free of charge, as well as pressing for more transparency with regards to calling other non-geographical numbers from mobiles.
OfCom is also initiating a push to persuade businesses to begin taking advantage of numbers that begin with 03, as they offer a similar pricing structure to 01 and 02 numbers.
This is what Ed Richards, Chief Executive of OfCom had to say. “There is clear evidence of widespread uncertainty and confusion about the cost of calling these numbers. Consumers need to have far more transparency about the price they are going to pay for calls so that they can make more informed choices and so competition can work more effectively. Making 0800 numbers free from a mobile and giving people clarity about what they are paying for 118 directory enquiry services will improve transparency, improve competition and enhance trust in these important services.”
It’s nice to finally see some action being taken towards the cost of calling these numbers. Many companies such as AA Roadside Recovery require you to call an 0800 number when in need of assistance. However the fact that they offer a free phone number is irrelevant, as when you are most likely to be in need of assistance you will probably be in the middle of nowhere with only your mobile to make calls with.
